How do you set up your center to welcome parents for open house?

what do they need to see?

Is it a new centre?

If so then you could have blank display boards with a sign saying “please decorate me” children (parents) can pin artwork up from the open day (you’d have to amke sure you have paints and craft out for this!)

Then have a display board showing logo, photos of the area, any artist sketches, any leaflets, interesting info such as photos of staff-with names and qualifications, a motto or aim displayed etc.

Info packs: including policies, info they need to know, registration forms, medical forms, costs, opening times etc…also a leaflet or small poster as they can pass these to friends and family!

Things to have out:

I wouldnt go over board—set up the basic areas such as craft area, home corner (roleplay), physical play (outside maybe), a quiet area (books and pillows), tables with something out like Mr Potato Head or Lego, floor toys for a baby area. Then anything particulary fancy you want to show off-such as a sensory area, ICT area etc. You dont want too much clutter else parents may think it looks unsafe!

Also have a snack area-simple things like juice, coffee, tea, biscuits and raisons-this encourages people to stay , relax and chat!

If you are already open and well established try inviting some parents/children in to be ‘models’ they will be confident, know where things are, and the new parents and chat to old parents…starts up relationships and shows you have good communication with your parents.

Make sure the place is light, well-aired, have doors open if safe to, label directions to toilets, drinks etc. Have names badges on and a uniform if possible.
