what does a cream spot tiger moth caterpillar?

I found one of these wandering around in my kitchen today and want to return him to the garden. Can anyone tell me what he eats or if he is looking for somewhere to pupate or hibernate?

On a German site I found that in culture the caterpillars are fed with dandelion ( Taraxacum officinale ) and plantain (Plantago spec.)
