is it possible to see the flag on the moon’s surface with a telescope or a good pair of binoculars?

The smallness of things telescopes can view at a distance is called the scope’s “resolving power”. Resolving power is a direct function of the size or aperture of the instrument. In other words, the larger the scope’s main lens or mirror, the smaller the size of objects at a distance it may enable us to see or ‘resolve’.
This is fixed by the laws of physics. In reality, looking through earth’s turbulent atmosphere prevents very large scopes from realizing their full resolving power. More details can be found at
