should i water my large established trees that are over 20 yrs old in the summer. ?

it does not rain in my area from may to november. a gardener suggested that i should water these large esablished trees in the summer months because of lack of rain. is the gardener wrong? he says some of his customers request him to water their older trees in summer. am i wasting water when i water these trees?

It’s not wasting water. We had an arborist come out and look at our redwoods when we thought they were dying several years ago. He allayed our fears, telling us that redwoods go through a “molting” every several years. At the same time he recommended that we water the redwood ~2x per year. He said put a hose on it and let it run for a day.

I’d consult an arborist as to how often/how much the trees should be watered based on their age and species.
