Summer Large Garden

How do I get rid of paralysis ticks in my garden?
I live in NSW, and our area is apparently riddled with paralysis ticks (have been here for about a year).
I thought they were a summer problem, but I have been removing ticks from my dog, myself and my baby all through winter.
I have been gradually removing all overgrown areas in my large garden, but this has had no effect on the tick population.
Any further suggestions? Can I plant pyrethrum daisies or something? I fear the problem will worsen over summer, and I want to be able to enjoy my garden.
Also, any suggestions for dealing with the tick bites- have huge itchy welts allover my body?
Although ticks favour some plants such as lantana and unmown grass, when plague conditions are favourable they’ll crowd every plant, waiting for a host animal to board. Eradication is impossible but comprehensive information on minimising ticks in gardens is at www.tickalert.org.au. Pyrethrum sprays are effective but need regular applications. Blitz-em Ant, Flea and Tick Killer contains non-hazardous bifenthrin but is toxic to aquatic life.
If your garden is infested, spray
pyrethrum into the bushes every few
weeks
You better get on to it before summer.
