contaniment for a small mini sheltie dog?

i have a small mine sheltie dog. we have to keep him on a chain or he will get loose and run away. i live out in the country with corn fields around my hose. and im affraid my dog gets lost in one. i have about an acor of ground. dose anybody what kind of contaiment would be the best and cheapest to keep my dog in the yard. we have an underground electric fence but my parents never put it in.. are they hard to put in?

An underground electric fence does have to be put into the ground so if you’re in a cold climate you better do it now. The dog still has to be trained to know what the boundaries are. Shelties are very smart and yours should learn quickly.
I use a wireless fence for my dog and it works great. There’s no digging to do and it’s not expensive (about $250.00). Lots less than a regular fence.
