What is the difference between diffuse reflection and regular reflection?

In theory light travels in a straigt line. However, if this was the case 100 % of the time then there would be many areas where lignt would not be able to penetrate. This is where diffuse reflection comes into play.

Normally, when light reflects the incident ray and the reflected ray are the same. You will know that diffusion means “dissolving and spreading.” During reflection some of the reflected light does not travel with the reflected ray. It diffuses at many angles into the environment.
