The wonderful and great team is none other than The Boston Red Sox

The wonderful and great team is none other than The Boston Red Sox, one of baseball’s most storied franchises with some of the game’s greatest hitters. Originating in 1901 as the Boston Americans, the Red Sox have a 110-year history with at least 800 runs scored in 28 seasons. The 28 players have hit at least 100 home runs with Boston with Ted Williams topping the Red Sox’s all-time home run leaders. Most seasons grading the Red Sox would engage the starting nine, a couple of bench players, six starting pitchers and maybe 4-5 bullpen guys. With all the injuries the team have been forced to endure, however, grading the team has become a little more complex. The Yankees arch rivals, the Boston Red Sox put away their differences with the Bombers/Evil Empire in order to pay tribute to late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. The Red Sox held a moment of silence for The Boss and late Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard before their game against the Texas Rangers. The Red Sox tribute which also saluted Bob Sheppard, the Yankees public address announcer for more than half a century, created some unusual theater at Fenway Park. During the tribute, players from the Red Sox and the Texas Rangers stood in unison in front of their dugouts, their caps off, their heads bowed. A military honor guard marched out to center field. Images of both Steinbrenner and Sheppard rang out from the scoreboard. Although Steinbrenner was ruthless, one Red Sox fan told that “He’s a human being and deserves to be honored. That doesn’t mean we love him, but we respect him. The Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona was asked if he remembered Sheppard announcing his name, Francona said, “I don’t know, I actually don’t know. It’s actually really hard I don’t know if you are going to believe me but it’s hard to hear in the dugout. I don’t sit around waiting to see how my name comes out, especially there. Usually, there are three people in the second row who follow up my name with ‘You suck!’ ” The current 2010 season the team Red Sox have been battered, bruised and beaten. Well, not pretty beaten, they are still in the thick of the American League East race. Before Thursday night’s action, the Red Sox stood just five games back from the first place Yankees and three back of the Rays. Right now The Red Sox have a Major League-high 11 players on the disabled list. Starters include Dustin Pedroia, Josh Beckett, Jacoby Ellsbury, Victor Martinez and Clay Buchholz. Yet in some way they have a shot at winning the division. This makes the Boston Red Sox buyers once again this July 31.The Red Sox are buyers in the sense they will add a player or two to try to round out the team but donot look forward to any blockbusters.
