Rebel Battle
Who cleaned up the battlefield after an American Civil War Battle.?
1. Was there a truce after the battle to bury the dead and gather the wounded.
2. Did the battle winner remain on the field to clean it up. I assume the South would have used slaves to do the work, Did the North use captured rebels.
I have been watching The Civil War on PBS, and after some of those battles there was a lot of carnage.
Prisoners, slaves, ex-slaves, whites in need of work, and soldiers on both sides.
