The Hunt For The Stanley Cup Continues

The NHL playoffs continued, on the run up towards the Stanley Cup finals. There are 8 teams gunning for it. The Detroit Red Wings are down two games against the San Jose Sharks, the Canadiens are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers both trail by one game to the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins, respectively. The playoffs could be anyone’s game, though it seems some have more work to do than others. It’s early in the playoffs, and not even a cash advance to a psychic will tell who will emerge victorious.

The Red Wings are out for Stanley Cup 14

The Detroit Red Wings are out for number 14 in Stanley Cup victories, though their start in the NHL Conference Championships has not begun well. They went in as the number five seed, against the number one seeded San Jose Sharks. The San Jose Sharks have yet to clinch a conference championship, though they have five divisional titles. San Jose won both games so far by a score of four to three. The next two games will be in Detroit, at the Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday, May 4, and Thursday, May 6. Both games start at 7:30 p.m., Eastern.

Penguins and the Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have won more Stanley Cup victories than any other team, and they are tied with the Penguins at one all. The first game was a Pittsburgh victory, 6 to 3 on April 30. A masterful performance by goalie Jaroslav Halak two days later helped secure a Montreal victory over the Penguins. Halak had a heck of a year already, as he and the Slovak team took fourth at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Game 3 will start coverage at 7 p.m. ET, in Montreal.

Blackhawks and Canucks

Saturday May 1 was the first meeting of the Blackhawks and the Canucks. Chicago were blasted by Vancouver, scoring only one goal to Vancouver’s 5. Game 2 will be May 3 at 9 p.m. ET.

Bruins and Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers trail the Boston Bruins by one game to none. Boston nabbed a close overtime victory on May 1. May 3 at 7p.m. ET will be the second game. All 2010 NHL Playoffs will broadcast on the Versus channel in the U.S. and are carried on multiple networks in Canada. (Check your local listings.)
