When and how did countries make their national flag?

They are so many that are really similar and was just curious how they were all designed, was it all at the same kind of time? Did they just copy what others were doing?

The Pan-African colors are a combonation of red, green, and either yellow or black. Most of the flags that follow that color scheme derived their flag from that of the country of Ethiopia. Follow the link to learn more.
