When Republican party mostly appeals to people with confederate beliefs
Strictly speaking, he was elected, not appointed.
But aside from that, it does smack of tokenism. Not that anyone he was running against was more qualified, but it’s hard to imagine anybody making as many gaffes as he has. ∠°)
