The Wolverines Battle The Bulldogs On New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day has the Michigan Wolverines playing against the Mississippi State University Bulldogs in a rematch at the Gator Bowl Games. The Michigan Wolverines represent the Big 10 Conference and the Bulldogs are members of the Southeastern Conference. The overall score of the Michigan Wolverines is 7-5 and in the Big 10 Conference, 3-5. The Bulldogs totaled 8-4 in the overall and 4-4 in the southeastern Conference. Currently, the Michigan Wolverines are not in the top 25 listing of the Big 10 but the Bulldogs occupy slot 21. Last year, the Gator Bowl Games saw Florida winning over West Virginia with 33-21.

The announcement of the match between the Wolverines and the Bulldogs was not expected. Anticipation was for Michigan to play against Florida (6-6). However, the excitement generated by the announcement was no less intense.

This year’s Gator Bowl will be the first time for the new coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Rich Rodriguez. The team played in two previous Gator games, losing one and winning the other. In December 28, 1979 they were defeated by North Carolina 17-15. In January 1, 1997, they won over Missouri, scoring 35-3. Then they won their first Capital One Bowl Game in January 2007, defeating Florida 41-35. In all next year’s event will be the third time the Michigan Wolverines have participated in Gator Bowl Games.

For the first time, this January, the two teams will be seen playing against each other. In all the 30 games that the Michigan Wolverines have played against the Southeastern conference their total score is 23-5-1.

The Michigan Wolverines are among the All-Time Winningest Football Programs in the country, having bagged a total of 42 Big 10 Conference titles. They also won the National Championships 11 times. Since their win over Florida in 2007 they put out a consistently low 3-9 for the past two years under new coach, Rich Rodriguez. There are rumors that if all doesn’t go well with the coming Gator Bowl match, a forthcoming change of coach is coming for the Michigan Wolverines.

On the other hand, the Bulldogs did fairly well this year, defeating all but the most formidable members of the Southeastern Conference.

The Gator Bowl officials are expecting a large turnout of fans from both sides as well as wide television coverage for the event. They anticipate that fans will be eager to see the Michigan Wolverines pickup where they left off this season after winning 5 games straight in a row and losing 5 of the next 7 games. However, the general perception seems to the that quarterback Denard Robinson of the Wolverines is being made to run the play for the entire team. And when gets worn out, the team’s performance goes down.

Wolverine fans are hoping that Rich Rodriguez will come up with new game strategies that will take the pressure off Robinson and distribute it more evenly to tap the potentials of his team mates. Still on his third year with the team, Rich Robinson has time to make those adjustments to his program and game tactics.
