What basis exists to keep marijuana(ganja) illegal?

Pot can’t kill the user (alcohol can)and the illegality prevents research in energy, medicine, textiles, and pain control. Truly dangerous drugs might be fought better if pot were decriminalized or legalized.

At this point I think they will keep it illegal, not because its a drug, but because it involves SMOKING, and that is going to be banned in all forms anyway.
