Banners and Flags: St. George’s Cross

People, organizations and all kinds of countries for purposes of representation, and such use flags and banners. In the United States custom made banners, including school banners, are produced for a list of different purposes. One of the best-known flags likely includes the national flag of England.

The English flag is the so-called St. George-s Cross and is colored red, and was used as an emblem of the England during times of the past, which includes the Crusades. The flag featuring the cross was adopted during the 1500-s, thus making the flag more some 400 plus years old.

Back during those days, and at the beginning of the time period of the crusades, a red colored cross on a white background was already associated with England as it was known as (and referred to as) the St. George’s cross. Even though the then sitting Pope made the decision that the English crusaders were to be distinguished by displaying a white cross on red colored background, and the French crusaders a red colored cross on white background, the English knights would soon claim their red cross on a white background. Interestingly and however, some French knights carried on displaying that which they did before despite what the English wore.

The flag of England is displayed during events of all kinds, including the obvious sporting events such as cricket and soccer. Church that are lead by the Church of England may also fly the St. George’s Cross. Interestingly, the flag of the city of London is very much similar to the national flag. It displays the red colored cross on a white field plus a red colored sword in the canton.

This beautiful territory is considered part of the United Kingdom and shares borders with Scotland in the north and Wales in the west. A Kingdom of England was in existence till 1707, and included Wales until that time. Following a union with the Kingdom of Scotland a new Kingdom was created: the Kingdom of Great Britain.
