Island Banner

Island Banner
identify this lizard from hawaii?

this is from kauai island of hawaii. tried to take a photo, but he wouldn’t sit still. i’ve only seen a couple, and only here at my new house.

they are shaped like a chameleon, but have pads on the toes like a gecko; not dry and scaly, but not soft like a gecko. bright green (the color of the banner on this page) like if just shed skin, but i don’t think they all shed at the same. there are three red tear-drop shaped markings on the back between what i would think of as shoulder blades. not iridescent, but around the eyes are bright blue iridescent scales – only noticeable up close. absolutely BEAUTIFUL and i’m not even a lizard fan.:)

i will try to take another photo, but since i can’t confine one, i’m not sure i’ll be able to.

thanks!

You saw a day gecko, which was introduced to Hawaii.
Thank you for that excellent description!
