Irish Erin

What is the significance of the name “Mavourneen” to the Irish?
It is present in so many century-old irish songs, for example: “Come back to Erin”, and “Kathleen Mavourneen”, etc. I never hear modern songs repeatedly mention the SAME last name the way it is done in so many of these old ballads. Any old Irish lads out there know?
Mavourneen is not an Irish name it is the anglicised spelling of the Irish words ‘Mo mhuirnín’ which translates to ‘My darling’. The pronunciation of ‘Mo mhuirnín’ is similar to mavourneen.
