Is it a criminal offence to chop down my neighbours conifer whilst he is on holiday?

It is about 30 metres tall and totally blocks the sun from my garden (and all the surrounding gardens). I am a qualified tree surgeon and would like to dispose of it whilst he is on holiday. Do you think he would notice it missing upon his return? My other neighbour has spoke to him about it but he just told her to bugger off! If he did notice then he would probably blame it on her anyway a I have never even spoke to him. Thanks

You are definitely looking for trouble should you do that without his permission. Is it possible to negotiate with him and explain that it is affecting the growth in your yard and garden. Perhaps if they are approached diplomatically you may have success.
Otherwise you will just have to live with it.
