Why store rum in the freezer instead of at room temperature?

Hey I can’t seem to find an answer to this. All my friends tell me it’s better to store my rum in the freezer than leave it outside, but it never occurred to me why I should. Will the rum spoil if left at room temperature? Are there any benefits to using the freezer other than having a chilled drink?

It won’t spoil if left outside, but most hard liquor does taste better chilled.
Another benefit is that this way you don’t have to put ice cubes in it to cool it down, which would dillute it.
