Can’t seem to find anything on the web to tell me the length the flag pole should be.

I don’t know that there is a set standard. It needs to be 6-8 inches over the rim of your bucket. Too high and it’s more likely to fall out. Take into consideration for sand in the bucket to weight it down and keep the flag from bouncing. 12- 15 like mentioned sounds good 18 inches at most.
