Why do people still believe that BEtsy Ross was the designer and maker of the first American flag?

I believed it until recently while watching a show on the history channel.

Hey, it’s a nice story. Betsy Ross was a flagmaker, but probably didn’t make the first flag. Not sure we know who did, though. Let me look something up here…. Yeah, there’s that story of how she showed George Washington how she could cut out a five pointed star with one scissors snip—and that maybe leant itself to the myth that she designed the flag itself or actually made the first one.
