Evergreen Spring Garden

overwintering retail garden center inventory?
I recently opened a garden center (zone 8, mild winter) with my friend and business partner. I know what I would do with plants in my own landscape, but we are not sure what the standard industry practice is for inventory not yet sold at the end of Fall. Should we build hoop houses and cover everything? Even things that would otherwise be hardy in containers (roses, evergreen shrubs, etc)? Even if something will live in a nursery container, we are concerned that by the time spring rolls around, it will not be saleable, at least not immediately, if it set out all winter. We plan on having a big fall sale, but because we are just starting we had to load up for the fall planting season. Just not sure what to overwinter or how it is normally done. Thanks!
Contact the wholesale nursery you purchased the plants from and ask how they overwinter the same types of plants if they are located in your area, or how they recommend that you overwinter the plants. Better yet, ask them if they take the plants back into their inventory at the price they sold them to you or if not, at a discount off that price. It would be worth it to do that rather than invest your time and the other costs plus the risk of loss. Plants that are overwintered are almost always detectable and of less value than fresh plants from the wholesale nursery in the spring.
