Evergreen Halloween

Ideas for adding color to the outside of my home during the cold lifeless seasons to come. I don’t like gaudy?

holiday decorations, I live across the street from a giant National Lampoon’s Christmas, Valentines, Easter, Halloween and 4th of July that morph into one after the other! I like tasteful decor. I live in a white farm house with black shutters and a wine colored front door. I have a front porch that I decorate in the summer months with hanging flowers. There is about 1/4 acre in front with a few fruit trees and a a giant, mighty oak tree. I have no evergreens. Any tasteful ideas?

Love the sound of your home..say..I have a neighbour just like that..LOL..love your description..anyway..I like the look of a (depending on the amount of room you have), a bale of straw or two with tied corn stalk and a couple of pumpkins and gourds (gourds last longer and will take more frost) with a pot or two of mums..this is a great look for the autumn months..when it comes to winter, well, there are many ways to do this..cedar boughs in open wicker baskets work well for lasting the season..to add colour you can add shiny Christmas glass balls in with the boughs or tied bow of ribbon on the basket, or on the boughs. You can always get one of those country decor wooden snowmen, or use an antique wooden sled propped up with an old wooden ‘milk’ stool near it for a more rustic look..or use old wooden snowshoes/skates/skis…whatever the look you like..add in some greenery..even a small live planted spruce tree in a pot is great..a couple of them with different heights will look nice. I have a large front porch front and back of my house and I like to keep the odd antique piece out there with a rocking chair…just make sure they are finished as the weather will take quite a toll on them. Tall grasses will make a quiet but nice statement and can be put in anything..from an antique pickling crock to a more modern vase, stainless bucket..sumack leaves are turning right now and branches from this can be used too for colour..take a walk to get an idea of all the great looking stalks that may be growing near you and cost nothing but some time.
