Question about the Star Spangled Banner?

I have a question about he the USA National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. Listening to singers sing before sporting events most seam to draw out the E on Land of the Free for a long time 10-15 seconds or more. WHY? The song is not written that way. Also why can’t they just sing the song straight and not put in different inflections on words and draw some of them out. I think it detracts from the song.

It’s called ARTISTIC LICENSE.. which means you can chang the song or the lyrics for ARTISTIC purposes.
