Easter Applique

Should I use colored thread, or blk & white?
I’m doing a king-sized applique quilt, and there’s 49 different blocks. Should I use only black and white threads to do the applique stitching, or try to match up the colors a bit? And if i use colors…how should I match them? For example, one panel is a giant easter-egg…there’s TONS of colors, and I’m spending a fortune on thread to match them all.
Most books on doing applique say that matching the thread color to the color of the applique gives the best result, but yes, that can require dozens of spools of thread. I suggest trying to match as best you can, but you could also try using a thread to match the background – you just need to be extra-careful to do the stitching correctly so that it’s all but invisible. Each quilter has to decide for herself which things she can live with and which things will drive her crazy, then concentrate on the ‘crazy’ stuff. Ultimately, it’s YOUR quilt, and you should do it the way YOU want, and so you like how it looks. Also, remember that you can re-do parts of the applique stitching later if it turns out to bother you – it’s only thread, not concrete.
