Is it ok to remove 3 inches of dirt beteen the house and sidewalk? Will this ruin sidewalk?

The dirt strip is between the house garage and sidewalk. I was worried it might hurt the cement sidewalk causing too much water t build up there or may ruin the termite protection against the house. I was going to put decorative rock there and its supposed to be 3 inches down for rock. Whatcha think?

We actually did this at my house and haven’t seen any issues in the last couple of years. Just make sure you have a solid base and pack them tight along the sidewalk edge. Also, don’t forget to use either plastic or the landscape fabric between the ground and rock to prevent weeds from popping through.

Something to think about…we used a light colored stone and didn’t realize the mess falling leaves and “helicopters” would make and how difficult they would be to remove in the fall. So if you are going to have falling leaves you might want to go with a darker color to prevent staining.
