How to teach your cat to be part outdoor?

I’m curious of how people train their cats to be an outdoor cat but they still come home? Or it purely depends on the cat’s personality? I live in a plaza where there is some outdoor green areas and it’s a fairly closed environment ( you have to go upstairs, open some heavy glass doors and take the elevator to go onto the streets.) some of my neighbors let their cats roam around in the green area in the plaza. I think it would be fun for my cat to be able to go outside but not sure how I can make sure he doesn’t run off?

If you have provided the cat with a warm,comfortable home along with plenty of food and water the cat will know where their home or territory is. Your cat will probably be able to smell its way home. However if you do let your cat be an outdoor cat, realize the dangers that are out there. There are parasites, the cat could also potentially get lost or stolen, dogs, other stray cats, predators, cars, crazy people,etc.
