Cardinal Dogwood

What’s your state bird and tree? If you’re in another country do you have an equivalent?

Here in Virginia [U.S.A.] the state bird is the Cardinal. The state tree is the Dogwood.
They are both protected species and there is a hefty fine for killing either one.
Normally this would not be a problem. However, several years ago, a male Cardinal became entranced w/his own reflection in all my windows and the rearview mirrors on the truck. He was insatiable in his persual of the enemy! He would attack his own reflection relentlessly. I put up pictures of owls. I hung wind chimes. Nothing would deter him.
It was difficult to ignore and the thought crossed my mind to organize a small accident. But like the bird sucker, er, lover I am I decided to wait him out.
He finally migrated south when the cold weather hit. Whew!

California – The California Valley Quail and the Giant Redwood tree.

I know that California’s animal is a black bear (brown shade) and the flower is a poppy.
