would regular house/wall paint be fine to paint over a canvas as a gesso?

I’m in the middle of stretching canvases but can’t really afford to pay like almost 100 bucks for a bucket of gesso. also please list any pros and cons if using wall paint as gesso if any.
ok thats what I was thinking might happen. does anyone know any alternatives to gesso that would work but way cheaper?

try undercoat you dont want it shiny or at least you want it flat paint, not enamel or hi sheen
gesso is just acyclic paint with a bit of chalk
try water down white kids poster paint or kids finger [painting paint
dont be afriad to water it down heaps , it will just give it tooth
unless its a huge bucket 100 sound dear
