How to Eat for Free in the Magical World of Disney
Disney Dining
First of all, let’s just skip the preamble and get to the reason why you’re reading this article. You want to know how good free can really be and what it will taste like.
Once in a while, Disney runs promotions, especially on vacation packages, with free add-ons like a Disney Dining Plan. Let’s see what’s in it for you:
One Snack, one Table-Service Meal, and one Quick-Service Meal every day of your package stay for every person in your group who is three or older.
You don’t have to eat all that all at once. You can spend your entire Disney vacation eating, if you like. But remember! Any meal and snack benefits you don’t use turn into paper pumpkins at midnight on the day you are scheduled to leave.
There’s so many Quick-Service and Table-Service restaurants to choose from with your Disney Dining Plan, plus you can even dine with Disney characters!
Here are just a few of some the great places you can try with your Disney Dining Plan. When you are eating for free, everything just tastes even better. Some of these popular places may require reservations, so don’t forget to do that.
Cape May Café
A new England style eat-all-you-can-buffet with Disney characters will make you feel like you’re in eating in a beach; this restaurant is called the Cape May Café. You can even have everybody’s all time favorite – Mickey waffles for breakfast! And a seafood buffet fest for dinner. Try the crab legs and the saltwater taffy.
Whispering Canyon
Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge is a family-style restaurant that will transport you right to the Old West. If you like meat, you must to try the smoked pork, ribs, or chicken. Assuming you have room the next day, have a cowboy breakfast of buttermilk pancakes.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios 50s Prime Time Café
Want to feel like you’re part of a 1950s television show while you dine? This is good ol’ American comfort food at its best. It’s like a fantasy come true!
Akershus
Norway is not exactly famous for its food. Would it amaze you if your food comes with Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty? One character meal you can try out is the Akershus, which you can find in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion. The excellent meals here are buffet style – no menu. Pick up your pastries, cheese, and fruit and then when you sit down, your server brings hot sausage, bacon, eggs, and hash browns.
Sanaa
You will be fascinated with the biggest collection of United States African Art as you enter this restaurant, which is a treat while you’re dining. You will be able to see one of the newest “must sees” of Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, the Kidani Village, where the restaurant is located. Not only does Sanaa have hummus, they also have 3 different kinds of flatbreads with amazing dips. You should not leave this restaurant unless you try their specialty, tandoori chicken.
Via Napoli
Located in the Italy Pavilion at Epcot, Via Napoli is one of the newest restaurants at Disney World. Here, you’ll see wood burning ovens cooking pizzas. This restaurant also has an amazing and clean bathroom that one has to check out. You shouldn’t leave this restaurant without trying their fried Ricota balls, too. New and wonderful things at Disney World will never run out.
Hoop Dee Doo
Hoop Dee Doo, in Pioneer Hall in Fort Wildenrness, is so great it takes two Table Service credits. And the reason is that it’s a Dinner Show. Food such as strawberry shortcake, fried chicken, ribs, and cornbread are available here.
Contempo Café
When you don’t feel like eating in a restaurant that takes forever to serve your food, there’s always Contempo Café, which is actually a Quick Service Meal. You have to be warned; you will be ordering from a computer screen. Honestly, it’s amazing!
Hint: The mahi fish sandwich and as the flatbread pizza are must-tries. And the desserts are memorable, especially the cherry-filled chocolate cupcake.
Liberty Tree Tavern
When looking for the Liberty Tree Tavern, obviously it is situated in no other than the Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom. It’s right next to the Liberty Tree. Traditional American food such as turkey and pot roast are served in this restaurant, so make yourself comfortable in the Betsy Ross room.
Kouzzina by Cat Cora
Greek food is like heaven, and you can enjoy calamari, lamb, salad, and seafood, as well as spinach and feta-filled dough called phyllo at Kouzzina, which means “kitchen” in Greek.
Remember, there’s always room for desserts! Order a slice of chocolate lava cake, and I’m sure you’ll be licking our plate right after.
This is a place you’ll want to go back to.
