Michele Bundy Claims Attack, Gets Order Blocking Sharpe
Former NFL All-Pro tight end Sharpe has added another “former” to his list of credentials: previous co-host of the Sunday Columbia Broadcasting System Sports show “NFL Today”. Bundy, who’s apparently Sharpe’s girlfriend, was granted a protective order in Fulton County Superior Court based upon what court files indicate was “family violence” between the two. Presently, no crime has been filed against Shannon Sharpe. The legal process at work towards Sharpe is what has prompted him to leave his TV work behind until the matter is settled. Bundy alleges sexual assault
In Sharpe’s 10th case against him in Fulton County Superior Court records since 1994 (all involving previous partners), Michele Bundy claims the previous Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens star threatened her life and forced her to submit to sexual intercourse. CBS has been tight-lipped around the matter, and all Sharpe has had to say is that he is resigning from “NFL Today” until his name is clear. Other lawful matters on Sharpe’s plate consist of child support trouble with Melinda Wilson. That’s not so violent – allegedly – as his 2004 misdemeanor battery charge towards Erika Evans. Mediation was used in lieu of court conviction, however.
Hall of Fame around the field, less so off the field
Shannon Sharpe’s chances for election to the National Football Hall of Fame could possibly be harmed, however not postponed indefinitely, suggests Bleacher Report. His accomplishments as a player are unquestioned, and he has come close to being elected in each of his first two years of eligibility. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez may have broken many of Shannon Sharpe’s individual statistical achievements since Sharpe’s retirement from the playing field, however Sharpe’s body of evidence remains strong.
No morals in this term
Should the NFL institute a “morals clause” into their Hall of Fame selection process? Current bylaws specifically state that only a player’s on-field accomplishments should be considered when the question of enshrinement is on the table. Bleacher Report rightly points out that previous New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999, and Taylor has had numerous ugly run-ins with the law based upon drug, violence and a recent accusation of raping an underage girl. He isn’t the kind of person you’d hang out with, particularly if you were are underage female, however he absolutely nailed ball carriers and quarterbacks with his bone-rattling tackles.
Shannon Sharpe will get one more chance at the Hall of Feb. 5, 2011. Will he break the plane of the goal line, or be sacked by Michele Bundy?
