Is it possible to double major in Psychology and American Sign Language?

I have little to no experience with sign language and I am a senior in High School needing to send applications off. I heard the University in DC is a good college but I didn’t know what I needed to do to become prepared or what colleges allow me to double major and have a accredited ASL program.

Double majoring will be difficult, but if you do double major in Psychology and ASL there is a whole world of clientele that will be open to you. Most Psychologist aren’t familiar with ASL and many Deaf clients are uncomfortable going to hearing psychologists because that means bringing an interpreter into a very personal and sometimes embarrassing situation. Being fluent in the language will open up level of trust between you and Deaf clients that might not have sought psychological help from a hearing psychologist.

Talk to an academic advisor from any college you are interested in attending to see what they offer for degrees in each field. If you are okay with traveling i can tell you that the University of Arizona offers excellent degrees in both areas and has one of the best Deaf studies programs in the country.
